Revisiting the Gorge

I blogged about our first visit to the Oirase Gorge last July. It was so green and so beautiful. We just parked and took pictures at two waterfalls and I couldn't wait to get back and get walking.

Fast forward almost a year. (How does time go by so quickly?!) We were trying to figure out what to do with my parents one afternoon and decided it was too gorgeous to be indoors. Out here in Misawa, a sunny day is something to take advantage of because snow and rain are less than a day away.

Again, this is a post of pictures with little to no words. Few words needed this time. It's so beautiful. All the trees around here have just started budding, so the green is understated in the pictures. Funny how all the baby green leaves get washed out next to a giant waterfall...

The first big waterfall we made it to. We carefully climbed high enough to feel the spray of the waterfall. Coming from the flat and grassy Midwest, things like mountains and waterfalls amaze me. For size reference, Jeff's in the picture below. And I'm standing pretty far away before I worked up the courage to get up that high and not fall in the waterfall. Mission accomplished.

Gorgeous, right.

And now, a story of Jeff and the stick.

It was love at first sight when he found the dead stick trapped in some branches and foliage. He freed his new friend.

Jeff broke him in by testing his weight and whether the stick would show up as anything more than a blur on his annoying wife's camera.

It did.

The stick gave Jeff balance when he climbed every available branch, root, or rock in his path.

The stick helped him climb steps in the weirdest way possible.

The stick apparently made walking on the path unnecessary.

The stick was a true friend. But being a nature lover, Jeff couldn't take the stick away from his home. We said farewell and let the stick drift down the gorge before we got back into the car.

Friends forever.
